“Community shares are an ideal way for communities to invest in enterprises serving a community purpose."

(Community Shares Handbook p.1) http://communityshares.org.uk/resources/handbook

Long Lands Common Limited is a social enterprise with the legal status of a Community Benefit Society:

It has been set up by Nidd Gorge Community Action to provide the people of Harrogate & Knaresborough with a community woodland.

Rules of Long Lands Common Limited

To buy the 30 acres of green belt grassland and transform it into a permanent, community-owned woodland, we are asking the community to buy shares Long Lands Common Limited. This will raise the £300,000 needed to buy the land and begin the transformation work: planting trees and hedgerows and making the site accessible to all.

By becoming a shareholder, as well as owning a share of the land and having your say in how it is managed, you will be helping to protect and preserve the green belt for public recreation and wildlife, and also leave a positive legacy for future generations to inherit – both personally, when you pass your shares on, and publicly when the communities of the future benefit from your foresight.

Each share costs £1 and we are selling them in batches of 50 (i.e £50, £100, £150, £200 etc). The minimum investment is £50. The maximum is £10,000. Please indicate how much you wish to pledge when filling out the form below, and we will contact you when the share offer is ready.

PS: For an example of a previously successful share offer scheme that has worked elsewhere and that we have drawn inspiration from, please visit: https://www.whistlewoodcommon.org/

PPS: You can also use the form below to register an interest on behalf of someone else.
