Register for the Grassland Survey day at Long Lands Common!

We are going to be conducting a Grassland Quality Survey on the establishing wildflower meadow area at Long Lands Common, and we need your help! As you may know, this area was harrowed and green hay and yellow rattle seed from an established meadow at Staveley was spread on it last year.

The idea is to establish a baseline quality score for the meadow area. This will help guide us on how we manage it going forward. We may survey a couple of other areas as well for comparison. The methodology is straightforward and doesn’t require any grass identification, just basic flowering plant identification.

We have some guidance for volunteers which will help, along with ID apps and guidebooks which we can make available (please feel free to bring any useful books or crib sheets you may have!).

Dates and times as follows:

Friday 28th July 10am-4pm

Saturday 29th July 10am-4pm (we may finish earlier depending on how we get on)

If you can only come for a couple of hours that’s fine, and friends and family are of course welcome.

Please meet on site using the routes as on the Directions to Long Lands Common page.

The tarmac road to Long Lands Farm stables is only to be used for disabled access, and by prior arrangement.

At the moment there are no facilities on site.

We have limited numbers to 30 attendees per day at this time - so sign up quick!

You might also need with you:- drink, snack, hat and suitable clothes for weather and type of work.
