Crimple Commons
Crimple Valley forms one of Harrogate’s most distinctive and loved landscapes - a wide green corridor between Harrogate and Pannal, framed by the River Crimple and the historic viaduct. Much of the land is in public ownership and already cherished by walkers, nature enthusiasts and local residents. Yet, despite its beauty, the valley faces increasing pressure from development and fragmented management.
We are supporting Harrogate Wildbelt with Crimple Commons - a community-led vision for Crimple Valley, one that protects, restores and celebrates this important landscape for generations to come.

We are supporting Harrogate Wildbelt, local residents, schools and other community partners to explore how the valley can be stewarded as a connected, ecological commons.
The ambition is to:
-
Strengthen and restore wildlife habitats along the River Crimple;
-
Improve public access and footpath connectivity;
-
Support community-led food growing and outdoor learning;
-
Celebrate the valley’s heritage and natural beauty;
-
Create a clear, coordinated approach to land stewardship.
Why does this matter?
Crimple Valley is a remarkable natural green boundary of Harrogate. By working together, we hope to help safeguard this landscape not just as open space, but as a living system for wildlife, wellbeing and local identity.
This project supports the Wildbelt mission to connect landscapes around Harrogate through community stewardship.
