Knaresborough Forest Park

In 2024, we acquired a 60 acre farm near Knaresborough. This landscape, known as Butler Hills or Knaresborough Forest Park is a beautiful undulating addition to our community portfolio, offering historic vistas to Knaresborough Castle, intersected by two streams and patches of semi-ancient woodland.

Knaresborough Forest Park is managed by its own local group, much like Long Lands Common, and currently operates through its own website for the project, but will soon be amalgamated into a brand new web experience for the entire organisation, our places and projects, to make it clearer and easier for the community to engage with us.

This acquisition was made possible through the incredible commitment of our community of members and supporters, whose belief in community ownership made it happen.

We’re deeply grateful for the generosity of the George A. Moore Foundation in Knaresborough and for the philanthropic loans provided by Julia Davies and friends through the We Have The POWER – Funding Nature initiative, which helps community groups and charities to buy land and repay loans through share offers, grants and fundraising.

Together, this partnership of local people, funders and friends has saved this land from development, secured it for nature and safeguarded it for future generations.
